Medical equipment testing and calibration is a crucial task which is required by Australian Standards to be carried out regularly and in line with an equipment maintenance plan as well as to the manufacturers specified calibration intervals. We recommend testing annually to ensure compliance with AS3551, RACGP and AGPAL requirements.
Routine testing and calibration ensures that your medical devices are performing correctly and delivering peace of mind for patients and providers while maintaining practice accreditations. NES Group Medical qualified technicians are trained and have the required equipment to thoroughly inspect and test all medical equipment/devices in accordance with AS 3551 and specific state/territory legislative requirements in a convenient and cost effective way.

1. Our technicians use high pressure and high temperature data loggers to map the internal chamber pressure, heat and penetration over time at various locations inside your autoclave. It is important to also identify your chamber “cold spot”.
2. Steam penetration is assessed using a process challenge device (PCD) with a challenge pack and full challenge load. Chemical and bio-enzymatic indicators placed inside the PCD are read immediately after the cycle to confirm adequate steam penetration and air removal; these indicators are not incubated.
2a. Where biological indicators are required, we place sealed vials containing Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores in specific locations in the chamber, run the test cycles, then incubate the vials to confirm the spores have been inactivated.
3. We plug the autoclave into our electrical safety analyser which runs through a series of electrical tests to ensure the autoclave is safe to operate.
4. Visual examination of door locking hardware, seals, chamber, pumps and general condition of the autoclave.
5. Issue you with your autoclave validation certificate and report.
All our processes are completed in line with manufacturers recommendations and Australian Standards and can take up to 4 hours to correctly complete.
NES Group’s service engineers are trained in the current Australian Standards AS/NZS 5369:2023 and AS/NZS 3551:2012, so you can be assured that your autoclave is correctly validated and performing to Australian Standards and the manufacturers specifications.
If we find equipment that is out of calibration or requires attention we will either fix it on the spot if the fault is minor, usually at no charge if parts are not required. If parts are required we can provide you with a obligation free quote for repair or replacement depending upon the cost to repair and the age of the piece of equipment. We can supply loan equipment to our testing customers to ensure that there is no disruption to your practice and no issues with compliance as part of our testing and calibration service.
